Jorg Sunderman new COO of ACTIAM

Rotterdam, 6 January 2022 – As of 3 January 2022, Jorg Sunderman is COO and deputy CEO of sustainable asset manager ACTIAM, which was recently acquired by industry peer Cardano Group. ACTIAM’s new CEO is Harold Naus, who will also remain CEO of Cardano Netherlands.

Sunderman can boast an international financial career of almost twenty years at Robeco. He held a variety of positions there, in the Netherlands including in product management and marketing. From 2013 to 2020, he worked for Robeco in Asia, including as CFO/COO of Canara Robeco in India and as COO Asia Pacific in Hong Kong. Sunderman studied Business Administration at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

Socially involved in social initiatives

The acquisition of ACTIAM is in line with Cardano’s ambition to offer sustainable total solutions to pension funds, fund distributors and long-term investors. This runs parallel to Sunderman’s efforts to focus even more on sustainable investing and on the impact of the financial world on society. In addition to his work for Robeco, he is socially engaged and involved in different initiatives. For example, he is currently a board member of local food bank Voedselbank Haaglanden, was Chairman of the India Netherlands Business Association in Mumbai and supports various other social initiatives.

Prominent role for the financial sector

Sunderman therefore looks forward to working with the staff of ACTIAM and Cardano in what he calls ‘an exciting new chapter’ for both companies. “I believe unconditionally in the importance of sustainable impact investing. I am convinced that the financial sector can and should play a prominent role in contributing to solutions for the major challenges of our time. ACTIAM is a specialist in sustainable investment strategies that are currently in the spotlight of investors worldwide. Cardano and ACTIAM are well positioned to benefit from this trend and maximize the financial and social contribution for their clients in the long term,” says Sunderman.

Strong focus on SRI

Cardano acquired ACTIAM from Athora Netherlands, one of the largest pension and life insurers in the Netherlands. An important part of the transaction is a long-term agreement to manage part of this insurer’s assets. “Athora and associated brands such as Zwitserleven are obviously fantastic strategic partners to work with, partly because of their strong focus on sustainable and responsible investing,” says Sunderman.
